I am going to warn you here and now that this is going to be a long post. Don't read it if you don't wanna. It will be filled with stories of tragic ski accidents, some of Spain's most beautiful cities and whatever else I can remember from the past few weeks. Twil be EPIC. But if you're not into that kind of thing, feel free to read no further.
Warning number 2: I thought my camera was broken. It wasn't. But I didn't know that before 8 minutes ago. Therefore I have very few pictures of the past few weeks. But worry not! I have friends with facebooks. Imma just go ahead and borrow some of their pics. Ahem. They don't need to know.
So the last things I told you about were El Escorial, Toledo and Firur. Great. We have roughly 10209u313c5 more things to cover.Three weeks ago, my friends in the program went to Granada! Cool, right?! Well you will be hearing none of those stories cuz I didn't go. Instead, I decided to chill in Madrid. That was my first chill weekend. In retrospect, I do not think I used that weekend to it's full potential but I forgive myself. Anyways, the highlight of that weekend was receiving a visit from my friend, Karen Romero! We lived on the same hall freshman year and have remained friends. Karen is studying in Pamplona which is in the north of Spain and had a weekend in Madrid so I got to meet up with her when she had free time. It happened to be the weekend of Carnival. Carnival is this weekend long festival which I guess is really cool in some cities but Madrid doesn't care about Carnival. So instead of some grand fiesta, we got a sad looking parade. I am not even going to bother with pictures of that travesty. YAY AND NOW WE'RE DONE WITH THAT WEEKEND.
Two weeks ago, we took a class trip to Andalusia! Andalusia is the fancy name for the south of Spain. We mostly stayed in Seville but we also went to Cordoba. Seville was absolutely gorgeous. Seriously, it felt like California. And consequently, it felt a lot like home. There were orange trees EVERYWHERE. And anyone could take some (we asked our instructor just to make sure)!
And here are some pictures (mainly high-jacked)!

YAY AND NOW ON TO THE NEXT THING.
So last weekend I got to meet up with Karen Romero again but this time in her neck of the woods (Pamplona... just in case you forgot) and Alexa Wilcox (another friend from freshman year who is currently studying in Bilbao which is also in the north of Spain) met up with us. Originally, I just thought that I was going to get shown around Pamplona (famous for the Running of the Bulls and being a hangout of Ernest Hemingway's) but THEN Alexa and Karen were like, "Hey lezz go skiing in the south of France!" And I was all, "Well, I can't argue with that logic." So we set off (keep in mind, only Alexa knew how to ski).

The really cool thing about being in the south of France was that, since it is SO CLOSE to Spain, the workers had to know both French and Spanish. It was really cool to be able to hear two such beautiful languages at the same time. ANYWAYS, we headed up what we THOUGHT was the bunny slope. As we were on the ski lift up, we saw the bunny slope. We passed it. So once we got to our mountain, Alexa was all, "Well, here's as good a place to learn as any!" So Karen and she set off. Literally after the second bump in the snow, Karen fell. I had to go seek help. A frenchie took her down the mountain to the doctor's station on this bobsled looking thing (looked like a LOT of fun and I was jealous for a little while until we found out that her ankle was sprained and she would be doing no more skiing that day). After Karen was out of sight, Alexa looks at me and says, "Well, let's go." And I was all, "What, so they french men can come have to cart me down the mountain too?! I think not." And she was all, "There is only one way down, Jessyka." And I was all, "......fine." So off we went, take 2.

The "Before" Picture
I was doing well for a while, I promise I was. I was S-ing and flying over small mounds and children. It was great! Until I realized that I couldn't stop. My first attempt to stop was to go over what looked like a pretty big incline. I thought to myself, "If I go up that incline, I will lose momentum and stop!" False. It was a hill and I just flew right over it. My second attempt to stop was to just lay down. Problem is, ski boots keep your legs vertical so my skis had no idea that I was no longer wanting to continue. Try number three: I noticed a tree approaching. I thought, "PERFECT! If I run into that, I'll DEFINITELY stop." My aim's not so great. I hit it a little bit but not enough to stop. I ended up doing this James Bond move under the tree which would have been really cool if that's what I had been trying to do. Finally (I don't know how, when or where), I came to a stop. Alexa asked if I was ok. When I said I was, she told me that I should probably move because people were starting to think that I was dead. FINE. I'LL MOVE. A nice Frenchman helped me pick up my skis and I walked the rest of the way down that mountain. Like a champ.
After taking a breather, checking on Karen and getting some food, I went to the bunny slope where I remained for the rest of the day. Have you ever seen a pack of 5 year-olds do something significantly better than you? Try skiing on a bunny slope in the south of France. Best time ever.

Oh, the other highlight from last weekend: I GOT MEXICAN FOOD. Never knew how much I would miss that. YAY NOW THIS WEEKEND!!!
This weekend was another chill weekend (hence me having time to blog). BUT I was DETERMINED not to waste it. And I didn't! Thursday, after seeing a ridiculously sexual play with my theater class (aka my professor was there), we all (minus the professor) went out to get burritos! Yay more Mexican food! Afterwards, we went Chapindas (Cave Bar). Which was fine. I always forget that bars aren't so cool if you're not into alcohol. Whateva.

Friday, I saw this REALLY cool movie called Blancanieves (literally translates to Snow White). It is the story of Snow White but with the interesting twist of being FILLED with Spanish cultural references. Too sick. Probably one of my new favorites. And then I did a little bit of homework boo.
Saturday, we intended to study at the Reina Sofía Museum but when we got there, it was closed. Oops. So instead we studied at a Starbucks. Yay American. That night, Rebekah and I went to this bar called Vía Lactea. This place is famous because it was an underground bar during the time of Franco. This place is known for having the best music and an overall young atmosphere. It was really cool just for the history of the place. It was also cool because we got directions from a snarky old man who, after giving us directions to the bar in Spanish, revealed that he had a British mother (very well could have directed us in English). Goooooood Tiiiiiiiimes.

Today, a few friends and I went to El Rastro which is like a HUGE yard sale. It's the best! I know it is cuz... I GOT HAREM PANTS. Can't even wait to wear these babies EVERYWHERE.
El Rastro. Everybody's fave.
Ok, seems cool enough, right?
THE WATER NEVER STOPPED FLOWING.
THE END.
